The way to stay hopeful and never give up or despair…

In one of the letters of Nabi Armiyah (Jeremiah) written during the distress and hopelessness at the destruction of Jerusalem, he wrote:

… “And I said, My strength and my hope
is perished from the Lord:” (Lamentations 3:18).

But after that, his hope was renewed. He later recorded that…

“I remembered this, so I had hope. for the unfailing love of God never fails. His mercy never stops. Love and mercy are renewed every morning. How great is His faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”, “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him” (Lamentations 3:21-25).

The Nabi Armiyah’s (Jeremiah’s) secret for sustaining his hope was to remember these 3 things:

1. The love and mercy of God is eternal.  It never fails.  Because of His love we can trust that He will take care of our lives and that He has a good plan for us.

2. God’s faithfulness is great!  God is a faithful and true God who keeps His word.  What he has promised, he will do.  There is not one thing in which He has failed us.

3. God is everything in life.  When we hold fast to God and follow Him, we will not lack anything, but will live in His care.

To conclude:  our lives, despite adversity and discouragement, will never be completely hopeless when we have God and we hold onto His love. God’s faithfulness and if we follow him – that is everything we need in life – this will help us to live in hope, have courage, and be ready to face any obstacles and problems.
